For the first two evenings you can use an exclusive Rum Passport to become a “Rum Runner” through some of London’s top bars & restaurant. Your passport will enable you to try exclusive rum cocktails and a chance to win a trip to the Caribbean. During the next two days, in London’s most fabulous Rum Bar, Artesian @ the world famous Langham hotel, some of the world’s top rums will be judged by an all star expert Rum judging panel to award medals of merit to the top rums in their respected categories. And finally two action packed afternoons of sipping, nosing, tutoring, savouring and rum experiences on Saturday and Sunday July 21st & 22nd at the Rum Trade show & Exhibition @ The Royal Horticultural Halls, Victoria, London SW1. Veranstalter ist der vom Ministry of Rum (Ed Hamilton) ernannte UK’s Rum Ambassador, Mr. Ian Burrel. Ian ist lt seinen Aussagen seit 12 Jahren in Londons Bar-Business tätig. Seine kurze Vita: 1995-1998… Sales representative for J Wray & Nephew 1998…Appleton/Wray & Nephew Rum ambassador for the UK and Europe. Running their bar educational programmes. 2001…Set up Cottons Rum Shack & Restaurant in London, which has the largest collection of rums for a bar in the UK. 2002…Set up “The Grass to Glass” rum academy for all levels of bartenders to learn about rums as a category. 2003…Started The Appleton Rum Academy in New Zealand. A Rum training programme for the top bartenders in New Zealand, which included rum history and rum cocktail knowledge. 2004…Helped launch Appleton Rums in Australia with a series of rum cocktail training sessions in Sydney & Melbourne. 2004…Invited to join “Taste & Flavour”, a network of professional speakers in the drinks industry as one of their rum experts. Their clients include Sainsbury, Bacardi-Martini Ltd, Brown-Forman, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, J Wray & Nephew, Theme Magazine and the Wines & Spirits Education Trust. 2006…Started working with (WIRSPA) West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers Association in the UK to promote rum as a category to the general consumer. BB: So - what is an ambasador of RUM UK?
IB: An Ambassador of rum is someone who represents rum everywhere that they go. As a rum Ambassador, I am paid by various different rum companies to represent them locally and internationally by way of promotions, seminars, education and entertainment. I'm also an international judge in various rum tasting competitions around the world.
BB: Why is IAN A.V.Burrell addicted to RUM?
IB: "My first taste of rum was when I was about 4 days old. Being of Jamaican decent, rum has played a major part of my life."
BB: Why should german bartenders travel to the rumfest? IB:"As a bartender, if you are serious about rums then UK Rumfest...The rum experience, is a must. Not only will they be able to taste over a 100 different rums from all over the world, but there will be expert seminars held by Master Distillers and blenders.
